Sport Performance Aviation offers a bunch of Corvair engine related machine shop services. Dan Weseman has worked extensively with William Wynne over the years, and so has Dan’s father Jim. The Weseman’s developed a fifth bearing for the Corvair engine conversion that is now considered a standard recommended part for Corvair conversions,  and is a requirement of engines that William Wynne builds to order for customers. SPA also has an aerobatic single seat all aluminum aircraft that is pretty incredible, and has flown many hours with a Corvair engine in the front. Also important for me, they have produced  a Corvair Engine Assembly manual that contains first rate instructions on assembling a Corvair engine — full color with extremely detailed step-by-step instructions. My Corvair build will make use of a number of their services, including but not limited to the 5th bearing, the head preparation service, and very likely their 4130 alloy billet crankshaft. Details of the how and why can be found in William Wynne’s Conversion Manual and by perusing William’s extensive writings on Corvair conversions. Don’t cheat yourself. Use the best information and material available. Quick links:
